Estée Lauder CyberWhite EX
What inspired the development of Estée Lauder CyberWhite EX?
We discovered new findings on the etiology of spots and identified that there are in fact many different types of skin discolourations. These new findings prompted the development of a new CyberWhite; a brightening line incorporating specific new technologies designed to individually target and address each type of dark spot.

Can you tell us about your new findings on the causes of dark spots and discolouration?
We have identified three main types of dark spots formed in skin: surface spots, stubborn age spots and barely visible future spots.

Surface spots, which can give the skin a dark shadow or dullness are caused by clusters of melanin within dead skin cells which can build up in and around the pore openings.

Stubborn Age Spots are the consequence of a very severe constant irritation which damages the structure of the epidermis and dermis resulting in the accumulation of melanin producing cells in a specific area. As a result the darkness of the skin increases significantly in that specific area.

Barely visible spots - we discovered that melanin production can be activated by yet another pathway - the chronic release of histamine from mast cells after exposure to UV light or an irritant, causing an excess production of melanin to sit below the surface giving skin a patchy, discoloured appearance.

Why do you believe a customised and targeted approach to treat each type of dark spot is more effective?
Our new research findings show that not alldark spots are formed the same way, so it is important to

address each type of spot with a different technology. For example, the reduction of the appearance of small surface spots is achieved using a specific technology which addresses that type of spot (N Acetyl Glucosamine).

Tell us about N Acetyl Glucosamine. How does this work to help eliminate the appearance of small surface dark spots?
Newfindings show that small surface dark spots are the result of dead skincells containing discolouration, accumulating in and around the skin'spore openings. We learned that this specific form of Glucosamine helpsskin significantly remove these discoloured surface skin cells. By breaking up these clusters of darkened surface skin cells we
are able to make the skin colour look more uniform.
CyberWhite EX
How does CyberWhite EX address Stubborn Age Spots?
In light of the fact that age spots are due to a severe irritation which results in damaging the layer separating the epidermis and dermis (basement membrane), we have developed a new technology, Clarity Recovering Protein, which helps the skin to naturally balance its support structure. As a result we have observed a significant reduction of the age spots' visible darkness.

Tell us about the new Melanin Dissolving Technology (yeast bio-fermentation) - How is this different to Melanase?
We have discovered a new enzyme which has been shown to visibly break down dark spots more rapidly and more completely to a point where dark spots can be rendered nearly transparent. During our clinical testing, we observed that the effect of this new enzyme (Melanin Dissolving Technology) helps the CyberWhite EX regimen cause a very significant visible improvement of skin brightening as measured by our exclusive brightening index measurement (5.2 vs. 3.8).

Can you tell me more about the role of histamine?
As a result of exposure to stress, histamine is released within the skin. We have found that this release of histamine helps cause the production of dark spots. The discovery of the role of histamine release has enabled us to better reduce the visible consequences of this type of irritation as far as visible dark spots are concerned.

How does the new Melanin Interception Technology address histamine release?
The Melanin Interception Technology includes a class of compounds that has been found to help keep skin visibly calm with continuous use of the CyberWhite EX regime. Using one of those compounds (a concentrated tumeric extract) we have been able to significantly reduce the visibly skin darkening effect of the release of histamine and therefore reduce help reduce the appearance of barely visible dark spots just beneath skin's surface.

How soon will I start seeing results with the CyberWhite EX Skin Brightening System?
You will notice immediate and if used faithfully, long-term benefits. As soon as you apply the product, you will see a visible improvement in skin clarity. After 8 weeks of continuous use, you will notice an obvious reduction in the appearance of those stubborn age spots as well as an improvement in evenness of skin tone.

How often should I use the CyberWhite EX Skin Brightening System?
Dark spots are not a seasonal issue. The three different types of spots we have identified can form and appear at any time, so it is essential to continue to treat them all year round. Therefore, for best results we suggest using the CyberWhite EX Skin Brightening System every day of the year.

Is CyberWhite EX more effective if I use the products separately or as a system? Why?
The CyberWhite EX products have been developed to provide a synergistic effect in visibly improving the uniformity of skin colour. We use ingredients that we know are compatible with each other, and our data shows that you will see the best results by using the CyberWhite EX as a system.

The NEW CYBERWHITE EX Skin Brightening System will be available at the Estée Lauder counters in Harvey Nichols Knightsbridge and Leeds, Harrods and Selfridges from 5th May, 2008.
